The first two Super-Post Panamax Cranes will arive at the Container Terminal on Pier II S in June 2007 - a premiere for Constantza Port
It is expected that soon the Container Terminal on Pier II S will enhance its operational capacities and performances by placing in operation the new two Super-Post Panamax Cranes, which will arrive in the port during June 2007.
Thanks to the performances of the Container Terminal on Pier II S, the Port of Constantza has become, during the past two years, the main container hub for Black Sea area. Thus, ships with great capacities call at the new Container Terminal, while feeder-ships serves Black Sea ports, which does not benefit of similar operational facilities like the one offered by Constantza port.
In fact, the Container Terminal on Pier II S, which has started the operation in 2004 (with a capacity of 325,000 TEU’s), represents an investment of NC MPA SA Constantza. The infrastructure of the terminal and the elements of suprastructure (the existing three Post-Panamax Cranes) have been entrunsted for operation to the present operator.
The growing demands imposed by the increased container traffic has led to further investments regarding the enhancing of the terminal capacities (investments made by the present operator), thus at the end of the 2006 it operated over 840,000 TEU’s, and by the end of 2007 it is estimated a figure over 1,000,000 TEU’s.
The two Super-Post Panamax Cranes, which will arrive at the end of June at the Container Terminal are produced by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. (ZPMC) China and they have a twin-lift capacity. The cranes have a lifting capacity of 61 tons under spreader and a 71 tons under tacke hook capacity. The maximum operational lenght of the crane boom is 53 meters, the equivalent of 18 raws of containers. The maximum lifting height under spreader of the containers at the the quay level is 36 meters.
This characteristics are making possible the operation of the vessels in terms of top performance, meeting the demands the terminal customers and at the same time the clients of Constantza port, and also maintaining its leader position in the Black Sea area.
